Project Go Game

Below, I designed an app to connect gamers from around the world in one central hub.

Project Go Game

The Challenge

The popularity of video games has seen steady growth over the past few years and currently sits at the height of its popularity. Many people bond over video games, expanding comraderies through massive multiplayer online (MMO) games or simply finding peers through a shared fandom. I was tasked to design a social media app that allowed gamers to connect with each other.

The Goal

Design an app with eye-catching modern appeal that allows users to connect over their shared love of games. This app will include profiles, multi-user accounts, chat rooms, story feeds, live streaming, and contact, parental control settings.

Research

After analyzing competitors, I conducted a survey to understand the gaming and social media app usage behaviors of the targeted demographic. The survey results were categorized into two groups, which were based on the interviews. The two categories include; users that access apps for entertainment and to socialize with friends, and users that access apps for access to unique content and information. The findings suggest that socialization and entertainment are the primary factors that attract users to gaming and social media apps. Additionally, users prefer apps that offer one-stop-shop for all the things they want, which enhances their experience of the app.

User Personas

In order to gain a deeper understanding of popular social media and gaming apps, I conducted thorough research to explore their strengths and weaknesses. This included user surveys to identify their pain points and areas of frustration. Based on these interviews, I created detailed user personas to gain a comprehensive view of the needs and desires of different target audiences. Through this process, I was able to better understand the user experience and develop strategies to improve upon app functionality and usability.

User Flow

To ensure an optimal user experience, I began by creating a user flow for utilizing the Go Game app. This was based on valuable insights gathered from my empathy research regarding the browsing behavior of the targeted gaming-oriented demographic. By following this user flow, users will be able to easily navigate through the app's features and functionalities, allowing for a seamless and enjoyable experience. This served as a foundation for subsequent wireframe development and helped to prioritize key design elements for the app.

Wire frames

Working from the user flows, I created simple wireframes for the Go Game mobile app. These wireframes depict key screens including the home screen, onboarding process, and the user profile screen. The design is simple and intuitive, with a primary focus on providing users with quick and easy access to the information they need. Key information is clearly organized, making it easy for users to find the content they're interested in and connect with other gamers.
